Coinbase Wallet, in plain English
Coinbase Wallet is a self-custody crypto wallet. That means you hold the keys that control your assets—not an exchange acting on your behalf.
Think of it less like a bank account and more like a keyring for the onchain world. The wallet can help you manage supported crypto and NFTs, explore decentralized apps, and make transactions across supported networks. Coinbase Wallet is separate from a Coinbase account: the names are related, but the products have different jobs.
The useful shift is simple: you get more direct control, and more responsibility comes with it.
THE KEYLINE TAKEWhat “self-custody” really means
Your recovery phrase is the most important backup for a self-custody wallet. Anyone who gets it may be able to access the wallet; if you lose access and have no valid backup, support may not be able to restore it for you. Store it privately and offline. Never share it with a person, website, or “support agent.”
Before sending funds, learn where your recovery phrase is stored, confirm the network, and try a small test transaction when appropriate.
